quand la logique des formes n\u2019est pas imm\u00e9diatement compr\u00e9hensible. Azabu Edge par l\u2019architecte avant-gardiste <a href=\"https:\/\/japan-architect.jimdofree.com\/japanese-architects\/suzuki-ryoji-\u9234\u6728\u4e86\u4e8c\/\">Ryoji Suzuki<\/a> fait partie de ces b\u00e2timents tr\u00e8s particuliers que l&rsquo;on trouve parsem\u00e9s dans Tokyo. Azabu Edge se compose de blocs de b\u00e9ton brut, martel\u00e9s \u00e0 certains endroits comme si on avait cr\u00e9er des ouvertures au burin. On y retrouve la forme exag\u00e9r\u00e9ment accentu\u00e9e de l\u2019escalier, comme sur la maison particuli\u00e8re <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fgautron.com\/weblog\/archives\/2020\/04\/15\/\u30e6\u30fc%E2%80%90\u30a8\u30d5%E2%80%90\u30aa\u30fc\u3067\u306f\u306a\u3044\u304b\/\">House in Jingumae<\/a> du m\u00eame architecte, que j\u2019avais d\u00e9couvert par hasard mais en toute logique \u00e0 Jingumae. Depuis le d\u00e9but de sa carri\u00e8re, Ryoji Suzuki utilise les termes \u00ab\u00a0Experience in Material\u00a0\u00bb pour toutes ses \u0153uvres architecturales. Azabu Edge doit tr\u00e8s certainement \u00eatre la vingti\u00e8me cr\u00e9ation de l&rsquo;architecte, car le building porte le sous-titre Experience in Material N. 20. Ce titrage laisse entendre que l\u2019architecte con\u00e7oit son architecture comme une exp\u00e9rimentation des mat\u00e9riaux et des formes. Selon l\u2019architecte, Azabu Edge, datant de 1987, a \u00e9t\u00e9 dessin\u00e9 en r\u00e9action \u00e0 l\u2019environnement h\u00e9t\u00e9roclite alentour au moment de sa construction. La complexit\u00e9 des formes de ce b\u00e2timent entend refl\u00e9ter et s\u2019inscrire dans la succession dysharmonieuse des b\u00e2timents qui s\u2019alignent sur cette rue et dans ce quartier de Nishi Azabu. Comme on le sait tr\u00e8s bien, il n\u2019y a aucune unit\u00e9 stylistique dans l\u2019architecture tokyo\u00efte \u00e0 part pour certains complexes int\u00e9gr\u00e9s comme Roppongi Hills (qui n\u2019est pas tr\u00e8s \u00e9loign\u00e9 de Azabu Edge d\u2019ailleurs). Mais on peut \u00e9galement consid\u00e9rer ce chaos comme une nouvelle approche architecturale. Les \u00ab\u00a0Exp\u00e9riences in Material\u00a0\u00bb de Ryoji Suzuki ne sont pas toutes des b\u00e2timents ou des r\u00e9sidences priv\u00e9es, mais peuvent aussi prendre le format d\u2019installations artistiques, de films ou livres de photographies architecturales. La m\u00eame ann\u00e9e que Azabu Edge, Ryoji Suzuki r\u00e9alise un projet particulier appel\u00e9 Absolute Scene ou Experience in Material N. 24, qui documente en photographie la destruction d\u2019une maison r\u00e9sidentielle en bois. Plut\u00f4t que de construction, il s\u2019agit l\u00e0 de destruction architecturale. Le point d\u2019int\u00e9r\u00eat qu\u2019il d\u00e9veloppe dans ce projet est la mise en sc\u00e8ne de l\u2019\u00e9volution de l\u2019architecture avec le temps. Il tente de montrer une architecture qui continue \u00e0 exister m\u00eame apr\u00e8s son utilisation fonctionnelle, jusqu\u2019\u00e0 ce que le b\u00e2timent passe \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9tat de ruines. Dans une interview publi\u00e9e dans le livre <a href=\"https:\/\/books.google.co.jp\/books?id=nbt8DgAAQBAJ&#038;lpg=PA1&#038;pg=PA62#v=onepage&#038;q&#038;f=false\">Encounters and positions: Architecture in Japan<\/a>, Ryoji Suzuki nous parle de ce concept de disparition architecturale:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>[\u2026] architecture takes on a life of its own. It changes with the people living in the building, and it remains when the people leave. That\u2019s what interests me about abandoned buildings. In Europe, buildings are mostly made of stone and endure pretty well. But in Japan, buildings are basically wooden structures that disappear more easily. In Tokyo, after the bombing and the fires of World War II, most buildings burnt down, but their remains lingered on like ghosts. I wondered what would happen to a Japanese building when it became unused and began to slowly disappear.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Ryoji Suzuki choisit les mat\u00e9riaux en r\u00e9fl\u00e9chissant \u00e0 leur \u00e9volution dans le temps, \u00e0 la mani\u00e8re dont ils vont, petit \u00e0 petit, prendre de l\u2019\u00e2ge et s\u2019alt\u00e9rer, l\u2019\u00e9tat final \u00e9tant quand le b\u00e2timent passe \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9tat de ruines. On per\u00e7oit d\u2019ailleurs cet aspect dans les choix volontaires de casser certaines parois de b\u00e9ton, comme au rez-de-chauss\u00e9e du building, pour donner le sentiment que le b\u00e2timent se trouve d\u00e9j\u00e0 dans le cours de son \u00e9volution vers l\u2019\u00e9tat de ruines. Il y a une beaut\u00e9 certaine \u00e0 voir le b\u00e9ton vieillir, une beaut\u00e9 non-conventionnelle que j\u2019ai appris \u00e0 percevoir avec la photographie.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Buildings are constantly changing and transforming. [\u2026] I can\u2019t control how it changes, but I do observe the aging process. So, what I can control is my choice of material. As it changes over time, I want to choose materials that will age over time according to their substance, such as store or steel or solid wood rather than thin superficial materials. I design elements where you experience the aging of material.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>En parlant de photographie, me reviennent en t\u00eate les photographies de Hiroshi Sugimoto qui prennent souvent pour sujet le passage du temps notamment \u00e0 travers les s\u00e9ries en longue exposition de <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sugimotohiroshi.com\/seascapes-1\">vues sur l\u2019oc\u00e9an<\/a> ou de l\u2019<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sugimotohiroshi.com\/new-page-7\">int\u00e9rieur de salles de th\u00e9\u00e2tre ou de cin\u00e9ma<\/a>. De la photographie, Hiroshi Sugimoto s\u2019est reconverti partiellement \u00e0 l\u2019architecture depuis quelques ann\u00e9es. Il a notamment con\u00e7u avec l\u2019aide de l\u2019architecte de profession Tomoyuki Sakakida l\u2019<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sugimotohiroshi.com\/winter-solstice-lightworship-tunnel\">Observatoire d\u2019Enoura<\/a> pour la Fondation d\u2019Art d\u2019Odawara. Cet observatoire a ouvert ses portes en Octobre 2007 et se compose de plusieurs structures architecturales. De la m\u00eame mani\u00e8re que pour ses photographies et un peu comme Ryoji Suzuki, Hiroshi Sugimoto entrevoit son architecture dans sa temporalit\u00e9. Dans une <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2017\/04\/03\/t-magazine\/hiroshi-sugimoto-photograph-architect-enoura-observatory.html\">interview du New York Times<\/a>, il indique que son d\u00e9sir est de cr\u00e9er des b\u00e2timents qui ne montrent pas toute leur beaut\u00e9 lorsqu\u2019ils viennent d\u2019\u00eatre construits, mais au contraire s\u2019embellissent avec les ann\u00e9es. Il nous invite m\u00eame \u00e0 revenir dans 1,000 ans pour constater que le b\u00e2timent, certainement \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9tat de ruine, r\u00e9v\u00e8lera sa v\u00e9ritable beaut\u00e9.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Rather than designing architecture that looks its best new, he [Hiroshi Sugimoto] aims to create buildings that will \u201cstill look nice after civilization is gone,\u201d he says. \u201cAfter it ends, my building will be the most beautiful building as a ruin.\u201d [&#8230;] \u201cOne hundred years is usual\u201d \u2014 for the life span of a building \u2014 \u201cbut 1,000 years is my calendar. Wait another 1,000 years, and it will be much, much better looking.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Cette id\u00e9e est similaire aux r\u00e9flexions de Ryoji Suzuki sur la destruction progressive de l\u2019architecture jusqu\u2019\u00e0 un \u00e9tat de ruine, mais aussi de l\u2019architecte am\u00e9ricain Louis Kahn avant lui:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>When the building is a ruin and free of servitude, the spirit emerges, telling of the marvel that a building was made.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Ces approches sont relativement th\u00e9oriques, mais j\u2019aime beaucoup l\u2019id\u00e9e de voir des b\u00e2timents construits avec ces principes en t\u00eate. Et comme je l\u2019indiquais ci-dessus, le b\u00e9ton qui a prit de l\u2019\u00e2ge devient photog\u00e9nique comme un vieux visage.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>L\u2019architecture peut \u00eatre parfois d\u00e9routante quand la logique des formes n\u2019est pas imm\u00e9diatement compr\u00e9hensible. Azabu Edge par l\u2019architecte avant-gardiste Ryoji Suzuki fait partie de ces b\u00e2timents tr\u00e8s particuliers que l&rsquo;on trouve parsem\u00e9s dans Tokyo.
